PROBABLE AFGHAN REFUGEE CAMPS IN NORTHWEST PAKISTAN (S)
1. (S/D) At least 22 probable Afghan refugee camps have been identified in the Northwest
Frontier Province of Pakistan. a series of camps
extending from Khar, 50 nautical miles (nm) north of Peshawar, to arac inar, 70 rim west of
Peshawar, and within 30 nm of the Afghan border (Figure 1 and Table 1).
2. (S/D) Approximately 7,100 tents were dispersed throughout the 22 camps, which ranged
in size from 50 to 1,000 tents. The largest concentration, 12 camps with nearly 5,000 tents, was in
an area approximately 15 nm east of the Pakistani/Afghan border near Khar Military Facility E::
One of these camps consisted of approximately 200 tents (Figure 2). No military
activity was observed at any of the camps.
