derived from collateral sources.' Acronyms and abbreviations are defined in a glossary at the end of the
report. Additional reports will be issued as the situation changes.
2. (S/D) Imagery of the forward areas of conflict during the reporting period showed that the Iraqi
forces still controlled the city of Khorramshahr, north of the Karun River. The Iranians still controlled
Abadan; however, the Iraqi forces had reinforced their tank brigade north and east of the city. Iraqi field
logistical points were observed 45 nm southwest of Dezful along the Iraq/Iran border.
3. (S/D) Eight Iraqi and ten Iranian rear area garrisons/ facilities were imaged. Probable SCUD
activity was observed near Shaibah, Iraq, and possible FROG equipment was observed in Iraq, northwest
of Khorramshahr, Iran. In Iran, additional ground forces equipment from Hajjiabad area had departed
the garrison.
4. (S/D) One Iraqi and 17 Iranian airfields were imaged. A 747 with possible canvas cover was seen
at Tehran/Mehrabad Airfield. The runway at another airfield in the Tehran area was blocked by dirt piles.
5. (S/D) Naval activity was seen at one Iraqi and four Iranian naval/port facilities.
6. (S/D) Nine Iraqi and 18 Iranian POL facilities were imaged. New damage was seen at one Iraqi
and three Iranian facilities. Increased air defenses were identified at a refinery in the Tehran area.
7. (S/D) Related activity included the observation of a large crowd of people and the repositioning
of vehicles within the American Embassy compound in Tehran. The Iranian border transshipment points
at Barzagan and Jolfa were also imaged.

Khorramshahr. An engineer battalion was 7 nm west-northwest of the city, and an AA battery was 10 nm
northwest. Iraqi units on the west bank of the Shatt Al Arab included one artillery battery, two possible
mortar batteries, and an AA battery I nm southeast of Khorramshahr. Iraqi units on the west bank of the
Shatt Al Arab opposite Abadan included one artillery battery, 2 nm southwest of the city, and three
artillery battalions and three AA batteries, 6.5 nm southwest of the city.

reinforced by at least two mechanized infantry battalions, an artillery battalion, and two AA batteriesC
Limits of coverage precluded the determination of the presence of additional Iraqi forces.
10. (S/D) Iranian forces observed in the Abadan area on included elements of a tank
platoon, which remained just south of the Khorramshahr/Abadan bridge over the Karun River in a
residential area, and seven occupied ZU-23 AA positions, which remained deployed around the airfield at
Abadan.
11. (S/D) The Khorramshahr/Abadan area was partiall
observed on those days remained unchanged on complete coverage
y imaged

Dezful, Iran, and 35 nm northeast of Al Amarah, Iraq, along the Iraq/Iran border at 32-08-30N 047-48-
50E, 32-03-40N 047-38-OOE, 31-58-40N 047-28-50E, and 31-55-40N 047-32-30E

tank company, one mechanized infantry platoon, and numerous AA batteries were interspersed through-
out the area.
