Office Memorandum
TO
FROM :
SUBJECT:
REFERENCE: ,
? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT,
Assistant Director of Operations
Attn: Mr. George G. Carey
Assistant Director, C & D
Captured German and Japanese Films
Memorandum, dated 10 October 1947, same subject
from Deputy Assistant Director, 00
DATE: 17 October 1947
1. Headquarters, USAF Air Materiel Command by letter of 21 July
1947requested clearance from the Director of Intelligence, War Depart-
ment General Staff for the shipment of subject films to the Signal
Corps Photographic Center, Long Island City, New York. The Chief,
Training Group, ID, requested Commanding Officer Signal Corps Photo-
graphic Center to arrange for the shipment of subject films from the
AAF Air Materiel Command by first indorsement on 6-August 1947.
2, On 19 September 1947; Director of Intelligence, UDGS, received
a further communication front Neal E. Ausman, Col., AC, Chief, Photo-
graphic Division, T-2, Wright Field, requesting shipment date be set
as soon as possible inasmuch as his Headquarters continued to receive
large shipments of films and wished to dispose of them. The Director
of Intelligence, has not yet requested further action from the Signal
Corps but it is believed that he will do so.
3. It is evident from the OCD review of the basic correspondence
that the matter is currently being handled by the Department of the
Army and the Department of the Air Force. Further; ,CIA has no require-
ment for the films nor does CIA have any jurisdiction as to final dis-
posal of these films. While OCD desires to be helpful, it does not
appear advisable for CIA to take formal action in this case.
4. Attached hereto is the list of the captured films for.return
to Col. Neal E. Ausman.
