GENERAL
1. The lst Air Intelligence Service Organization (1st ALSO)
is the main translation agency for A-2, USFA. Its strength at the
time of our visit was 13 officers and 50 enlisted men.
a. Translation. The majority of translation requests come
from the Scientific and Technical Branch, A-2, USAF. No copies of
translations made are retained by AISO, and the original document is
returned to the translation requestor. flue of the current projects
of ALSO in July was the translation of selected articles from the
Soviet zone press in an effort to determine Russian and German communist
propaganda methods.
b. Interrogation. The ALSO also conducts interrogations
on former prisoners of war who have been returned to Germany by the
USSR and its satellites. The completed interrogations are sent to
A-2, Department of Air, Washington, B. C. or to the Air Materiel
Command, Wright Field, Ohio.
3. Its sources for foreign language material, other than those
documents sent to it by agencies requesting tr,ndl ations, are the
CIC in Berlin and a representative in Prague, Czechoslovakia who is
probably in the Air Attache' section,
)i.. Arrangements should be made to receive copies of translations
made by ALSO or, if that is not possible, sufficient data concerning
the translations in order that duplication by this agency can be
prevented.
