Approved For Release 2001/08/07 : CIA-RDP81-00706R000300120076-0 2 December 1954 FDD Reports The question of whether or not OCI is in favor of having FDD follow procedure on Economic Abstracts and publish its monthly summaries on cards cannot be given a "yes" or "no" answer until details as to methods of dissemination and identification are more clearly described. STATSPEC Currently the bcards are received in batches that have not been sorted and it requires considerable time for the analysts to wade STATS PEC through to find items of interest. Attempts to improve this are being made but to date _ Reproduction and OCD have turned down the sorting work. If it is proposed that FDD should institute a similar method of publishing, and leave the sorting responsibility to the recipient offices, OCI would be in a terrible predicament. The FDD summaries are more numerous and cover a much wider range of interests than the Economic Abstracts. OCI does not have the time or personnel to do sorting on this scale. As to receiving information items on individual cards versus the periodic area or subject compilations, OCI would interpose no great objections. In some instances, filing would be made simpler. However, it is pointed out that having all items on a particular area for a particular period in one report makes it easier for an analyst to discern trends and assures him that he has received all the items he should have during a given period.
