SUBJECT : Authorization for Language Lessons Request for
REFERrmTCE: (a) Memorandum to ADSO, Subject, Authorization for Language
Lessons, Request for, dated, 3 August 1949-
(b) Memorandum for all Foreign Branch Chiefs, Subject,
Authorization for Language Lessons, dated 27 April 1949.
1. In reference (a.), Miss of our"i" station was
authorized to study French at government expense until the end of the
last calendar year.
2. In view of the policy in reference (b) to the effect that language
lessons would be approved for OSO staf- employees on foreign duty at a
cost not to exceed $250.00 per eiaployee, per fiscal year, it is requested
that the authorization previously provided to cover the cost of language
25X1A9a lessons for 2M1Miss - expiring 31 December 1949, be extended for another
six months beginning 1 January 1950. The cost of these lessons is approximately
$4.00 a week.
25X1A6a 3. French is widely used in both by educated - and in
diplomatic circles. A portion of the raw material received at our- 25X1A6a
station is in that language. It is therefore considered essential that
personnel at that station be proficient in French.
