SUBJECT: Authorization for Language Lessor - Request for

1. Because of the wide use of French in - and the 25X1A6a
difficulty in learning it is advantageous to the organization
for all personnel, both clerical and operational, to be reasonably
proficient in use of the French language. 'It is, therefore, requested
25X1A9a that Administrative 25X1A6a
Assistant and Reports Officer respectively at a authorized to
take French language lessons at government expense so as to improve
their translation and conversational ability, which are of operational
use to this station. The. cost of the lessons will be approximately
$3.00 per week for each person} for a six months' period.

2. Authorization is also requested for language lessons for
Chief of Station at not only to improve his 25X1A6a
anguage a y, but also for the purpose of making operational contacts
with certain groups of interest etc*). He will 25X1A6a
take Russian or some other language suitable to the purpose. The estimated
cost is $4.00 per week, for a six months$ period.
