The Red Army has two large central supply depots in the Peoplefs Republic (DDR) One is at Frankfurt an der Oder; the other, at Satzkorrns near Berlin. The__ - Frankfurt depot is used mainly for food and subsistence; the Satzzkorn depot for equipment. 2, Rationing of the separate troop stations is done in this way: the Nah mittel Werke K6then, for example, supplies flour and other subsistence item to the Frankfurt depot, where the material is reloaded and distributed to the garrisons in the Lausitz, principally GUrlitz, Bautzen, K6nigshri;k and Dresden. In Aug-s4, 1953 the K6then works delivered 768 tons of flour and other f'oadstuf.f - to Frankfurt The Satzkorn depot has three sub depots: a depot for communications equipment in Berlin-Kapenick, a medical bfar h at Dessau-Rosslau, and a depot for artillery spare parts on Wienerstrasse in Zeitz. The medical supply depot gets its supplies from Soviet-German pharmaceutical firms, chiefly the following: Schering, In East Berlin; the Jenapharm works at Jena and Erfurt; the Deutsehen Serumwerk Dessau; Fahlberg & Liss of Magdeburg, and Heyder of Dresden. Satzkorn has large special rooms In which so-called decontamination material is stored. For about two months, Red Army trucks have been hauling gas masks away. These masks were almost all stored within the past year. They are now being re- issued to the troops. These are masks with the normal filter and the long tube The new gas mask has a filter about 15 cm long and 12 cm thick, fastened diTectly to the mouth valve. The filter has a special hidden heat-Sensitive layer. On this account the filters are stored in unheated rooms. It is estimated that about 25,000 gas masks and filters are stored at Satzkorn. end 255 N (JM) 51+4. 1 I+M/c xRi;?UTION [1 U.S. U.S. Officials Only SECRET SECURITY INFORMATION ARMY NAVY I IAIR FBI Approved For Release 2001/03/04: CIA-RDP81-01036R000100040022-3
