1. Since the beginning of the year 1953 the IPA Motoren-end Motorradwerk Cheanitz
has manufactured about 7,200 motorcyoles...,The main type concerned is the IFA
RT 125, of which about 4,000 have-been prdd~iced, about 2,000 of which were.o9ld
ilk the Peopie?s Republic (DDR) It has a 5 hp, engine at 4,800 r.p.m. The
cylinder bore, is 52 sum; ' t}ae ,pi,ato4 stroke, 58 mm. The crankcase and the, piston
ring are of light metal. Vie crankshaft is made of,,separate parts hydraulically
compressed. It is me nted,on three roller bearings, and has a crank pin. The
machine has a.7 ampere-hour battery and a 45 watt light. The transmission gear
ratios are: 1 : 24.8 in first, 1:,12.74 in second, and 1:,.7.85 in third.
2. About 2,000 of the new BE 350 have been manufactured. This machine has atwo-
gylinder, two-stroke boxer engine. Both cylinders deliver their power strokes
simultaneously. The fuel-air mixture is sucked up in a single crankcase. The
engine develops 15 hp. at 5,000 r.p.m. Power transmission is through a flexible
shaft. The spring suspension is by an oil-damped telescopic connection. The
maximum spring travel is 148 mm. The rear wheel spring has a travel of 50.mm.
The machines so far built are mainly for the volkspolizei. Manufacture of 4,300
machines of this type is planned for 1954.
