After the purge which followed the Nineteenth Congress of the Communist Party,
loom. congresses are now to be organized in Georgia, Gagistan Le ,, Azerbaijan,
-aen.a, Turkestan, Bokhara, and Uzbekistarf. The purpose is to select indivi
~ swhcan give more encouragement to the Communist Party. Moscow has al-
sent specialists to aid in the choice of the new elements, The Moscow
agents have been severely critical of the tactics of the local Communist
Parties.
2. Nomad bands uzbekistarf made an attack on a military detachment thirty kilometers
fxom,,Bu ap sic 7 ;;which is north of Turkul. This country is so wild that i6
is not possible to .Locate the scene of the fight more closely. The incident
took place about mid Oct 1953. The nomads killed eighteen soldiers, apparently
the total strength of the detachment. They stripped the bodies of arms, ammuni-
tion, uniforms, and rations, before fleeing into the steppes. It has not been
possible to get a clearer identification of the assailants.

not far northeast of Yerevan. The date was p obably near the middle of Oct
1953. Nine persons aboard.were burned to a crisp. The dead include Colonel
