THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. In connection with the subject of deliveries of machinery from the
Soviet Zone to China, investigation has established that this is
machinery which has been delivered from West Germany to the East
Zone under regular trade agreement, and which the Soviet Zone
resells to China. It is stated to consist mainly of machinery for
the textile industry.
2. Up to the present time, most shipments of goods from the DDR to
China have not been transported over the Siberian Railway. They
go the Baltic ports of Poland, and thence to China by ship.
Poland is operating some 17 overseas lines at the present time.
Endeaver willbe made to supply further details.
3. However, in August 1953 shipments of machinery to China were made
over the Trans-Siberian Railway. It was so-called mining equipment
which had been manufactured by ABDS and the Zwickauer Maschinen-
f abrik.
