90 men each; 3rd Com~~a,ny, ~0 men. Each company ha.s four officers, the company
commander, the political officer a,nd two platoon comria.nders. Each company ha.s

3. The 1st Ba.tta.l.ion ha.s eight of the older Josef Stalin tanks; the 2nd Ba.tta.lion

6? The commander is Lt, Col, Sa.rosi, 45 years old, a. tall strong ma.n, a. convinced
Communist, but not a. bad fellow. Commander of the 4th Battalion is Capt. Janos

~Y~e~service is very hard and discipline is strict. Morale is not good; most
of the men sa,y they continue in service not because of polltica,l conviction,
but because their; tra.inir~g ha.s prepared them for no other life than the military.
Food is generally very good, with coffee for breakfast, meat daily a.t noon except
on Mondays, tea. or coffee in the evening, with sa.usa,ge, bacon, cheese or a. good
portion ,of-vegetables.
