Within the Faculty of Mining: Geology Geophysics Mining Mining engineering Oil prospecting Training of personnel for training schools for mining technics. The last is an independent educational institute for the training of teachers and experts for the lower grade mining and other specialized schools. b. Within the Faculty for Metallurgy: Iron Metallurgy Non-ferrous metallurgy Smelting Alloys Heat Energy Science of foundry industry. This one has not yet been set up. c. Within the Faculty of Mechanical I'ngineering: Production technology. The other 5 or 6 desks have not yet been set up. The rector of the University is Stephen Sa'lyi. Other professors known to our informant are Elemer Nagyr professor of mechanical engineering,and Zoltan Horvath, professor of metallurgy. in'connection with further construction, it is planned that the university will be a small town in itself when completely ready. There will be six large apartment blocks connected with the university and other buildings. The whole complex should be ready by 1954, by which time 3,500 apartments ought to be ready also. Number of enrolled students is expected to be around, 2,400, who will live in luxury during their studies at the university. They will be housed in individual small apartments in order to secure complete comfort for them to be able to pursue their studies undisturbed. Further, clubi.ike fraternity houses will be built for them. But first of all a large sized technical library will be established, which of course will mainly contain technical books of the Soviet heavy industries, but in the interest of production technical books of the western hemisphere will Rlso be admitted. In order to further indoctrination, the University City will also have its own theater and movie. There will be a shopping center and. several sports fields are also planned. It is, however, more important to build the planned laboratories, first of all for chemical physics, and experiment-shops. Many and, very up-to-date designing halls are under construction. In order to accelerate and to facilitate the acquirement of practical sciences; new instruction methods have been Introduced., and the professors are to set up the closest possible cooperation with the workshops of the surrounding heavy industry plants, the work of which has to be followed up on the spotlir the prospective engineers. Thus it is easier to get acquainted with the machinery and. also.the still,missing experimental machinery is likewise re- placed.
