TO REPORT NO. 25X1X Further notes on industrial developments at various places in CorhTwanist China are given below: 1. Dairen: A shipyard at Dairen builds 150 hp. tugboats. Production ca.pa.city, 28 men build one boat in three and one-half days. 2. Mukden: A high tension (220,000 volts) line, 369 km long, connects An-;Shun, Pen-Ch'i, Mukden, Fu-Sung, Fuchin (Fusin), and other important industrial places. 3. An-Shun (50 km south of Mukden). After the seamless steel tube works are put into operation, a. second large steel plant will be erected which will manufac- ture chiefly railway rails and steel trusses (Geriiste). 4. An-Shun: Firebrick for lining blast furnaces, etc. are manufactured at An-Shun, Pen-Ch'i, Ttang Shan (Tangshan) and Chin-Yuan. Peiping: The national glassworks at Peiping are now manufacturing for the first time, `wood glass," a, kind of filter glass which admits no light rays except ultraviolet. 6. Pei-Feng (Sian): A new cotton mill is under construction on the Lung-Rai railway line, in the rich cotton district of central Shansi province. Ta. kui?~ The Yungli chemical works at this place near Tientsin have in- 1 t production.-(chiefly soda and caustic soda) by 50 percent. 8. Yinchuan: As a result of irrig@.t4jgnil#evelopments, 36,400 hectares more of land than in 1949 are now under irrigation in the province of Ningsia. Ningsia is the region west of Alashan, with its center at Chenfang. Ch'ang-Sha.- Production of the Sia.ngta,n electric motor works to the end of Oct 1953 was larger by 10 percent than in the entire year 1952. 10. Wu-HannearHankow): Forty different kinds of steel are manufactured in the Tayeh steel works and delivered to more than 300 factories in various parts of China. 11.
