1. The movement of Soviet. troops 1T, Satellite .states, interrupted as of 20 'Dec 53,
began aj,,'win on l u Jan )4 and has taken on considerable propo: Lions.
2. The 113th and the 114th Motorized Infantry Divisions, formerly stationed at
Lvov n Eastern Galicia have taken up new positions in the Carpathians, between
Jasina, Ustcorna :end Lazy in Ruthenia, This movement was part of a general
alteration of Soviet military dispositions in the Ukraine, which has received
important reinforcements from Russia proper. The now dispositions were directed
by Marshal I.P. Kon5v; in general they augment the highly mobile forces stationed
near the borders of the Satellite states.
3. Polish Narsh:~l Rokossovsky, .acompanied by high officers of the Soviet general
staff, iz now on inspeeticn.in the region of Bielsko-Zywiec, southwest of Chrzanow,
near the Jablunkov Passe The 17th Soviet /armored Division, stationed at Minsk,
is being tran ;furred to this region,
It. This movement is accompanied by a general redistribution of Polish forces, a
leading feature of which is that the moto-mechanized and cavalry units are being
regrouped and sent to the Czechoslovak border, between Silesia and Tatry mountain.
5. A less important movement of Soviet troops is taking place in the region between
Pirna, south of Dresden and Htensko to the Czech frontier.
6. The general object of the new dispositions is to form Soviet un' into a central
group which can reinforce the Polish and Czech units at will, ort,those stationed
in Saxony.
