1. Pipers Airfield is 4 IIar northeast of Bucharest, east of Pipers village, on the
Bucharest-Constants railroad line.
2. It is pinned to lengthen the field to the 'north, ' which Can be done withcarst
difficulty as there are only cultivated fields and,a few peasantUa houses in the
way. The eastern border of the field is the second rate road Bucharest-.atefanegti-
hssrea, which will'be raised to a first-class highway as for as the field. The
west eggs of the field is the Bucharest-Tunari Tad and an arm of the Crivina
creek.
3. The field is 2,000 by 100 as In the direction of Pantelimon village at the south-
east corner of the field is an.obstacle, consisting of the 60 m high smokestack
of the factory there.
4. The ground has no drainage canals, but is very hard?a;-nd water runs off it easily.
It can be used by all types of planes all year round.
5. The buildings are used by both Bowlets and Rumanians. Occupied by thy: Soviets..

6, There is no indication of a radar station. In the full of 1953 conutruction
was begun on four new buildings, whose purpus;e Is uncertain.
7. The runway is 2,000 m long, and it runs from south to north. T'ht;r?; i:a no concrete

There is no regular night lighting; when a night landing is necessary, reflectors
are brought out.
8. There is a railroad spur from the Buohart,st-Contatan$u line, with an unloading ramp.
9. The fuel dump consists of underground tanks, around which hull-grown trees were
planted, which have now nearly hidden it. It" has a capacity of 500 tona. There
are no underground pipelines, but they are to be built.
10. At the field there is currently t Soviet L'i1 htc.;r :;quadvon with 32-S4 YAKs and four
LI-2s. There is also a Rumanian flying school of 30 to 32 training planes of
vsrinus types, four L1-2s and three old Uaernwn JU-1)4':tc.
