1. The Csepel factory is on the island of the same name south of Budapest and north
of Szigetszentmikl6s, running in a north-south direction along. the island. The
factory grounds have two main entrances. Near the northern one is the office
building, the research laboratory and the planning office. In front of the office,
is a testing road 8 m wide and 6 km long. At the west side 0Y the installation are
the shops. A normal gauge railroad runs the length of the installation. At the
east side are a hospital, a meeting hall, an apprentice-school and a home for
apprentices. Coal and raw materials are stored in the center.
2. The machine equipment is partly old, partly modern. The forced pace of the work
leaves no time for preventive maintenance. If machines break down the workers
using them are held responsible.
3. Motors, cars and various types of spare parts are produced. No bodies are made
at this place, those used coming from the Ikarus and Rflkosi MMtyds works. Now
being produced are Diesel motors, Type 350,for 3-ton trucks, Type 130 for 1.5- 25X1
ton trucks, Type 20Q for 5-ton trucks, Type 300 for 3-ton trucks. Type 350
les that of the Steyr Diesel truck. Type 130 is suited to the
truck. The other two types are of pure Hungarian construction and are 25X1
produced especially for the Hungarian Army. Type 350 goes to most of the state
industries and also to other Iron Curtain countries.
4. There are no shortages in raw material, although deliveries are sometimes delayed.
The factory gets rolled iron from D16sgy6r and Stalinvf?ros, cast iron, aluminum,
bronze and other half-fabricated parts from Gyor, half-fabricated steel from the

Rdkosi Mdtyds. works, instruments from the MOM optical works and the Gamma factory,
electrical installations from the REMIX factory in Budapest. In all these materials
there are 25 percent rejects; many cars are returnee because of parts failures.
5. Monthly production on the average is 600 of Type 350, 450 of Type 130, 200 of
Type 200 and 300 of Type 300.
6. The factory employs about 9,000 workers, in three shifts, including Sundays.
