The 3rd Abteilung of the antiaircraft regiment at Stalin is stationed northwest of the town of Galata, a few hundred meters southerly from The fire department beacon. 2. An observation post has been established at triangulation point 230. The observation and surveying personnel are from the antiaircraft regiment. The vineyard lying southerly from Point 230 is used as an antiaircraft target range where firing practice seaward is carried on. There is also a smaller target range for practice at ground targets with 1.nfantry weapons and heavy AA machine guns. 3. Quartered in the barracks is a medium antiaircraft regiment It is organized as follows; Regimental commander, staff and staff battery, 62 to 64 men; Radio-telegraph platoon, 35 to 37 men; Telephone platoon, 36 to 38 men; Observation and reporting company, 82 to 85 men; supply column, 42 to 45 men; Medical platoon,, l8 to 20 men; Two antiaircraft units (Abteilungs), 250 to 260 men each. Organization of 1st L unit (Abteilung): Abteilung commander and staff, 32 to 34 men; Two batteries, 110 men each. 5. T e?batteries are organized as followss Battery staff; observation platoon; two cannon platoons; one heavy machine gun platoon. Each battery is armed with four 85 mm antiaircraft guns and four 12.7 mm heavy machine guns. Officers and noncommissioned officers carry machine pistols; enlisted men have standard Soviet rifles. ?here are 4 machine pistols to each half-platoon. 50X1-HUM 6. The 2nd unit (Abteil is commanded by~a Major Kruvalof! It has a staff of 32 to 34 men and two batteries'of 110 to 115 men each, armed and equipped like those of the 1st Abteilung, One battery is commanded by a Lt. Sepkof 7. The 3rd unit (Abteilung) of the regiment, as already stated is statiemaa at Galata. Its organization is similar to that of the other two. 50X1-HUM 8. The total regimental strength is 780 to 800 men. A draft of recruits was called,up in October 1953 and distributed,pon6U~ c ~ t1 ~r4e@,.. 4 ' qp ;being given-bisic infantry training. Except during training periods at the grounds south of Point 230, the 1st unit (Abteilung) is permantly in barracks and the 2nd Abteilung in the fire positions on the vineyard hill. The 2nd unit (Abteilung) holds gunnery practice at various targets at sea; the 1st Abteilung has been trained only against aerial targets. The positions of the 2nd Abteilung are well concealed and can hardly be detected from the sea. 9. The regiment is fully motorized, but the exact, number of vehicles is not known. The following kinds of ammunition are employed: smoke shells: antiaircraft?high explosives shellsw.ant1tank high explosive shells, special rhell 'No.' 1;- special shell No.7 2 (this is only taught; but not used). 10. The class of 1931 has served for two years. More than half of the men belong to this class. The recruits called up in October-.1953 belong mostly ,o the class of 1932; -about 10 percent.are of the class of 1933, .and a very few from the class of 1931. 11.
