Recent information gives the stations of Soviet troops in Szombathely
as below:
1. Cavalry Barracks. A Soviet armored regiment; two training classes. These
barx?seks. were completely renovated and two new tank garages built in the
summer end fall of 1953,
2. jAkai Gesso vnd,.eren6-Szdkely Gauze. Private houses in these streets are
largely o'.seupj,id_by Soviets ;hose exact numbers are unknown.
3. Former 7;tior . Boarding School. Occupied by Soviet motorized infantry in
enknown, , strength..
4. Soviet City Command. The Soviet city command headquarters are in the former
Leglevieh public house, in Belojanis utee.

Alkotminy utea. The Soviets have commandeered the houses at Nos. 4, 5 and 6.
They are occupied. by enlisted men in unknown numbers.
6. Begolyv& (Bulenburg). The building is occupied by Soviet troops. In estimate
of their ntmzber is impossible because of the strong guard maintained.
7. Gendarmerie Barracks. Here are located a Soviet command post, a workshop, and
an wA.rgrouxd fuel magazine. No troops are quartered here.

Faludy classical school, the Signal Corps Barracks, and the former Hungarian
4r Corps Headquarters.
Soviet officers are living in the two-story house at Narcius 15 Place.
10. There are two-row tank garages 150 meters long on the Haladis sports field
and in Zzredives Park, filled with Soviet tanks.

There is a Soviet underground fuel depot in Soptei Street near the LTA barracks;
it is under eoutinuous guard.
12. The number of Soviet troops is estimated to be considerably less than formerly.
There are indications that the city is being partly evacuated by the Soviets
and that newly organized Hungarian troops are being transferred here. wne

13. There is a Hungarian command post in Thokoly Hasse and a Hungarian, officers'
club at No.4, lI rcius 15 Plats. There are LTA troops and police formations in
the barracks in Lirily and.Lisfalw4i Streets, which have been quartered together
since Beriass death. The commandant is an LYE officer. Major rpwL7 Koltay, who
formerly was the Tax county police commandant, is now only a chief of unit

14. In the modern ITH Barracks in SBptei Street, built in 1952, a unit of the "Blue" AT)
is quartered. These barracks are four-storied and have concrete cells for..
prisoners even meters underground. These Blue Lvi troops are entirely separate
from the other L'vi and the police. They hold daily exercises in close formation
at the training grounds near the city.

15. The airfield at zombsthe has been extended in a northeasterly direction during
