Hohengandern (NB 6491) to Bademeusel (VT.8224}
February 1957
Route # XIV serves the major cities of Nordhausen, Halley Leipzig,
Riesa, Cottbus, and Forst. Its length is 497 km.
The route is in good condition with areas of cobblestone, tar mac a-
dam and concrete surface. The part of the route which is not autobahn
is 6-7.5 m tivide and has a tarmac or cobblestone surface. The autobahn
sections of the route are of normal construction, A 1518 C, with onl
one lane operational from VT 5131 near Cottbus to the border (VT 8224.
There are two lour-capacity bridges at QC 05b00775 and VT 98580111.

Leipzig (US 2390 to Elsterwerda (UT 3644)
This short 8? km route runs northeast from Leipzig (US 2394) to
Torgau (UT 6210 and then southeast intersecting Route XIV at Elster-
warda (UT 3604)
Route XIVA is predominantly asphalt paved; hovr~;ver, in small
towns it is paved with cobblestones. The tr?vled way is 6 meters wide
with 5 meter shoulders. The corditior_ of the route varies from good to
very good.
h section of the highway from Leipzig (US 2394) to Taucha (US 2695)
is boing resurfaced with cobblestone. The former asphalt surface was
dos tr oyod by Russian tank traffic .

This 376 km north south rotite serves the major cities of Prezlau, Berlin,
Cottbus and Dresden,
From its origin near Stettin (Poland) to Dresden the route is autobahn
in good condition.
South of Dresden (VS 0759) to the Czech border the route is 4 - 5 meters
wide in fair condition. k bypass is planned at Altenburg (VS 1225),

Route XVI, a major route of southern East Germany, serves the cities ~f
Eisenach, Gotha, Brflirt, Wiemar, Jena, Gera, Zwickau, Chemaitz, Dresden,
Bautzen, and G~rlitz. With the exceiption of the first 10 km to Eisenach, and
the last 45 km from Bautzen to G~rlitz the route is autobahn. Its length ie
380 km, and it is in good to excellent condition with areas of reconstruction
on the autobahn and bridges, The last 45 km from Bautzen (VS 5971) to G~rlitz
(VS 9967 is 8 - 9 meters wide with 2 meter shoulders, tar macadam surface
and in good condition.
