The uait was organized into ihe battalion etLff without headquarters

first lieutenants. The 1st an0 2nd Co's were billeted in buildings
referred to by U 6 and U 9, ;11() 1st and 2nd ?rig 0018 in buildings
U 3 while the staff was hou3ed in adrinistrative building Vw 2.2
-It was planned to reinforce unit and to improve the billets as
for as necessary. Plans were available, but the beginning of
construction work was postponed until early 1959 due to financial
reasons.3
2, Each training course was planned to take care of about 150 soldiers.
The soldiers of the motor vehicle and training companies were
scheduled to be trained for 4 weeks and 6 weeks respectively Letween
23 and 27 January 1958, the first 150 recruits arrived with the
battElion. All of them were newly enlisted personnel, some of whom
had -not yet been sworn in. The soldiers had gone through a general
medical inspectLon but were again examined with the battalion to see
whether they were fit for driving (color-blindness, eye and ear
defects and disease of the heart). They were; however, not examined on

The airfield cannot be seen very well from the south because it is
hidden behind a hill. The woods where the buildings are
locatedaregwarded by sentries. The airfield area can be observed from the
north and the east. In the north the entrance to the landing field
Is open; it is, however, not quite clear, how far the wire fence extends
in the north In the south, only remainders of old fences were
observed.
