The packaging of these samples was inferior to U. S. A. practice in that
the bottles were closed with cork stoppers and sealing wax instead of
with gcrew caps provided with paraffined liners..
This inferior closure is believed to be responsible for the
relatively dark color of the samples, The color is attributed
to cork extractives.

Conclusions drawn from these tests and examinations are as follows:
a. Sample No, 1 fails to meet U. S. P. standards in the
following respects:
(1) The residue on ignition is above U.S,P6 limits..
(2) The chloride content is outside U,S.Y, limits.
(3) The lactic acid content is actually 77.l% as opposed to
a claimed content of 80%,.
b, Sample No. 2 fails to meet U.S.P. standards in the following
respects:
(1) The residue on ignition is above U.S.P. limits.
(2) The sulfate content is outside U.S.P. limits.
(3) The lactic acid content is actually 49,2% as opposed to
a claimed content of 50%.
co Each sample contains an appreciable amount of white-insoluble
matter; Sample No, 1 contains considerably more than Sample No. 2.
The bottle closures are inferior to those employed for similar
products in USA practice,
