Briefing of Bush prior to China visit. I told Brzezinski Dick Allen had called me to ask for a briefing for Bush prior to his October 18 trip to China. Brzezinski saw no problem with this, but suggested that .it be handled at the.NIO level. It should also be confined to developments in general and our relationship with a. It should not cover any sensitive intelligence operations. 2. General briefings of the candidates. Brzezinski told me he had called Reagan and Bush to offer intelligence briefings. Bush was effusive, but said he would have to defer to Reagan for a decision. Reagan was cautious. I told Brzezinski that it was interesting that Dick Allen,. with whom I talked today, had no knowledge of Brzezinski's conversation with Reagan. Brzezinski thought either the DCI or DDCI should be present at the briefings. Their purpose should be to inform the candidates about developments overseas, but they should not get into intelligence sources 25X1 and methods. 25X1A 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X Approved For Release 2004/10/28 : CIA-RDP81500401 R002400090011-8 M ET 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/10/28 : CIA-RDP81 800401 R002400090011-8 Approved For Release 2004/10/28 : CIA-RDP81 800401 R002400090011-8
