SUBJECT: Material for SCC on Mideast Security
1. Subject meeting will be from 0900-1030 in the SitRoom
tomorrow, Friday, 22 August. will be accompanying
you to this meeting. (It is not clear at this time whether the NSC
will restrict discussion of th Ei -J- genda item, the Soviet Threat
to Iran, to principals only.)
2. Attached herewith are two notebooks with material for that
meeting.
a. First book contains material relating to your briefing
on the Soviet threat.
- Talking points have been revised per Pre.-Brief.
- Graphics is going to be working all ni.gh.t to get
things ready and therefore you will not find the
graphics here. F __]will be bringing with him the
briefing boards as well as paper copies of the
graphics to be handed out to Principals at the
meeting.
- The Principals will have a paper copy of each. board
that you will be using; there will also be two
handout graphics for which there will be no boards--
these are noted in your talking points as "handout
only."
- I have asked the NSC to make sure there are easels
in the SitRoom for your use.
b. The second book has the material for agenda items two
and three. It contains both a Del------ State
paper with NFAC comments on each.

d. You should be aware that there are footnotes in SNIE
regarding likelihood/Soviet intentions toward invading
(JCS has called worrying what you would be saying).
Believe your talking oints are balanced and will not
put anybody out.
