Presidential Briefing Topics for After 24 January 1978 1. The following major topics were briefed on 17 January in addition to some topics pertaining to collection and routine business. A. NIE 11-3/8-77 B. Horn of Africa 2. The following topics are nominated for the Presidential briefing on 24 January 1978. There is a good chance that the briefing will not take place. In this event the topics listed will be handled as indicated in parenthesis. A. SALT Status (reschedule to 31 January) B. Implications for CTB Negotiations of the Chinese Positions (sh er forum) C. Counterintelligence (shift to 7 February) D. Soviet Negotiating Style (reschedule to 31 January) 3. The following subjects are in various stages of preparation for future Presidential Briefings. When he has approved a topic, the responsible officer will be asked to provide an outline for the DCI's approval. Preparation of the draft briefing will start after the outline is approved. A. Evaluation of Performance of Imagery Systems B. North Korean Exercise Activity 5. The following topics have been deleted from the list of working topics for the reasons indicated: A. Detection of Mobile Missile Deployments (handle in PDB) B. Chinese Strategic Missile Deployment (Good topic, but completion time of required analysis not yet clear enough to justify holding active.
