3. The next briefing is scheduled for 26 March. There are Pre-
Briefs scheduled for 19 and 24 March following the practice of the last
briefing go-around. The first Pre-Brief (19 March) will be more of a
screening session wherein the Director will discuss certain subjects in
which he has expressed an interest with a small group of analysts.
Then, at the end of each discussion, a decision will be made as to
whether a Presidential Briefing will be developed. The following will
be the topics of discussion on the 19th:
? Implications of Transition in Rhodesia for southern Africa
? Update on Soviet Brigade Activity
? Middle East issues
- Syria: Prospects for Assad and Implication for
Prolonged Instability if Assad Falls
- Pan-Arab Charter
- Palestinians: Prospects for Increased Militancy
? Reactions to Shift of US forces to Indian Ocean
(Discussion based on paper done for Brzezinski)
? Effect of Conflicts in SE Asia and Afghanistan on ASEAN
