MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Status of the "Blue/Red" Book
1. nd I attended a
meeting with the DCI on the proof copy of the boo K. The following
points were addressed:
--Distribution: The DCI insists that SecState receive a copy; he
would defer to DoD on other recipients (DoD has
requested a copy of 0 larger dissemination
list--presumably because they like the book and
want to make further use of it).
--Completion The DCI would like the final copy on 11 June, but--
Date: noting that the President will not be able to attend
to it right away--would not insist upon this date.
--Future Assuming the book is completed pretty much on schedule
Editions: the DCI would like to discuss such issues as:
-The time period covered in the data tables
-What subjects should be treated.
--The DCI would prefer two "blue/red" editions per
year.
-When he hands Brzezinski his book, he intends
to urge that the project's progenitor heap praise
on the participants so that SecDef would be
inclined to support future editions.
--D/NFAC, pending concrete decisions on the "blue/red"
book, will continue to plan for the two red only
editions per year.
-He noted that some items may not be treated
in a joint book, citing the omission of the
from the current edition
as an examp e.
2. Subsequently, et al met with D/NFAC to cover some of
his comments on the proof copy. e touched on the following points:

--Seals: The SecDef's logo should appear above the DCI's
on the cover as the former is of Cabinet rank.
--Boldface Type: Probably should be dropped from the "red" side,
because DoD is not treating the "blue" side in like
fashion.
Probably should be added (This may not be possible,
inasmuch as the data may not be readily available
and, if not, generating the data might cause coordination
problems on the "red" side, which could delay the pub-
lication process).

Delete the paragraph because its been said before
and the material is rather "opaque."
