1. On 23 July 1980 the Director briefed the President on Central
America among other subjects. This briefing was very well received and
its success was due in large part to your contribution. The Director
felt this briefing made a significant contribution to the President's
thinking with regard both to the region's political and to their domestic
economic problems. (C/NF)
2. The Director has asked me to relay this thanks and appreciation
for your efforts in support of this briefing. This was a very difficult
and complex subject to deal with as the number of revisions will attest.
Your responsiveness, patience, dedication and thoroughness were essential
to making the briefing successful. He views these opportunities to
brief the President as one of his most important responsibilities as 25X1A
