Some work remains in refinements and desirable improvements to steveral component* (Scope Receiver, Prequendy Stepper, etc.). Minor design problems continue to arise in aircraft installation* (i.e., relocation and cabling for APQ-56 and System #4. missions). Productions Priority has been revised downward drastically. Two production versions of the Air Unit and 1 production version of the complete Ground Unit exists. Two addi- tional Air and 1 additional Ground Units will be delivered this month (October). Thereafter production viii be targeted at delivering 4 additional Air Units and 4 Ground Units in early December for extensive field evalua. tion. Present: Future; Flights continue with No. 11 in ccermanication with Seal Beach on a "limited availability" bails. The fear of antenna flash-over at altitude has been dissolved. Tests revealed severe temperature problem in Air Unit resultinc from specific location. Design change has been flight tested and incorporated. Results generally highly gratifying. Program for extensive operational evaluation tests being developed. Initial evaluation and generation of opera. tional procedures will be done by Agency. Subsequent testing and demonstrations will include Air Force and Navy. Evaluation program will include establishment of ground unite in 3 existing Agency radio stations in Europe which will then operate as evaluation network. Network hardware capability will remain in place for possible use by Project if considered necessary (Europe only). Specific technical flight testing problems will arise from time to time between Ranch and Seal Beach to work out problems with Frequency Stepper and, similar type Retro-fits. Exploitation of system tethnique in Department of Defense develop- ment of system to meet their several requirements while preserving essential Project security.
