Dear George:

As Bob indicated to you by telephone last week, it has become
necessary for a number of our, people to work a 54-hour week on System
No. 2 during the period between January 22nd and March 18th. About
half of the professional and half of the nonprofessional people on the
project will probably be working such a schedule. We have estimated the
additional hours of nonexempt overtime required for the 54-hour week as
follows:
Technician
Design and Drafting

$ 1, 368.75
These hours represent the additional six-hour requirement above
the present 48 hours authorized. We would appreciate an extension of the
present dollar authorization from February 29th through March 18th, and
an increase in the dollar authorization from as 25X1
well as approval of a 54-hour work week for certain selected personnel.

It has become necessary for other divisions of the Company to put
their professional people on an extended work week. As a result, we have
made a Company-wide review of our compensation policy for professional
people on extended work weeks. A study of practice in the area has indi-
cated a fairly general program of time and one-half compensation for
exempt personnel up to a salary level of $125.00 per week for all employees
earning less than $15, 000. 00 per year. Accordingly, we have submitted to
the Air Force .for approval a compensation plan for exempt personnel pro-
viding for half-time premium payment up to $125. 00 per week, and $1.55
per hour premium pay from $125.00 to $250. 00 per week.
If, as seems likely, the Air Force approves this policy, we will plan
to put it into effect on February 13, 1956. Since it is desirable to be uni- 25X1
form in this respect throughout the company, we will ask you to approve the
