The copies of the letter of transmittal addressed to you and sent to Russ were unsigned, since the proposal is basically being submitted to your organization. No. 151X5.262 Copy I of 8 Page Hof 3 18 October 1956 year. It is difficult to estimate the portion of the work which will be performed in the current year, but for purposes of this proposal we have estimated that half of the work will be performed in 1956. The delivery schedule proposed is our present estimate of the avail- ability of this equipment. Deliveries scheduled for this year will be made from equipment which is being manufactured for existing customer require- ments. Systems will be available on the dates shown, but if they are shipped to meet SAC requirements, a deferment of deliveries scheduled under present requirements will be necessary. It is likely that this will not present a problem on System 1 equipment, but only a limited number of System 3 equipments will be available in the current year and will have to be shipped based on the priority of the several requirements. There was some discussion in the October 5 meeting of a possible increase in the quantity of certain racks of ground duplicating and analysis equipment. The present proposal was based on three complete systems; but the unit prices of the individual racks are shown, and the quantities can be adjusted at a later date for approximately the same unit costs. The spare lists included with the proposal represent our recommenda- tion for type and quantities of spares to be provided. Based on admittedly limited operating experience, it seems advisable to take a conservative approach to spare provisioning and to make increases in number and quantities of items at a later time if operating experience indicates the need for such change. The costs included in the proposal for spares represents a total of the estimated costs of the itemized lists except in the case of spares for the ground duplicating and analysis equipment. In this case, an additional dollar amount has been included above the estimated cost of the itemized list to provide for additional items of spare equipment which we believe will need to be added to the present list on the basis of initial operating experience. The development of a new transistorized amplifier and power supply for System 1 was discussed at the October 5 meeting, and work is currently under way on such a development. However, the amplifiers and power supplies proposed in this cost estimate are the present tube-type units. The present version will be shipped under this requirement until the tran- sistorized version becomes available from production.
