contains two features which need to be considered at greater length.
A. in order to save weight, NV proposes
to reduce r of recorders and record the output of 8
entennas (four receivers) on two type channels. While perhaps
attractive at first glance, this should be avoided it at all
possible. Sven under ideal conditions it reduees the probability
of intercept of
111111.11111111* by three-quarters over that of a
two recorders. This loss in effectiveness can ill be afforded
if the original concept of a ? irObabiliti intercept System is
to be kept. The cost of the tianal recorder is only 25 lbs.
(abase location in the aircraft is non-critical as far as System,
VI Is concerned) and the potential gain afforded by this extra
weight is enormous. To kner,the intercept probability high,
suitching between "left" and "right" antennas should also be
avoided. had proposed that instead of switching, the
gain of one antenna be periddically cut down, a concept that should
be retained.

2. Of course, ell of the above is very much a preliminary reaction,
sines- vs do riot yet have a complete proposal from NW. / woad urges how-
ever, that it be decided to retain the extra recorder and thus avoid time-
sharing tmrtmeen receiver Channels. The 25 lbs additional here may save
mew bearthremics later.
