17 January 1956 Approved For Release 2007/07/25: CIA-RDP81 B00878R001400030101 -6PC ,~~ SECRET COPY (OA r _-~. Nomp The accompanying proposals are recommendations bringing the spares and support equipment programs for Systems 1, 3, and 4 up-to- date. The FAK List for Systems 1 and 3 was modified, and the modifica- tions as set forth in our letter dated 28 November 1956, CMCC Doc. No. 151X5. 326, were accepted by you. This results in an additional cost for spare parts of $1, 834. 00 per FAK List, or a total of $5, 502. 00 for project support requirements. These modifications have not yet been incorporated in the SAC Fly-Away Kit Lists, but the changes will probably be relatively small. No adjustment has yet been made in the depot spares requirements, but there is a general feeling that with the readjustment of quantities in the FAK Lists no additional material will be required for depot spares. Both the costs of these changes to the FAK Lists and also those changes which were proposed in our letter dated 18 May 1956, CMCC Doc. No. 151X5. 107, subsequently approved by you and put into effect, need to be incorporated in the contract. Exhibit A lists certain additions, deletions, and corrections to be made to the System 1 and 3 SLOE. These are principally changes to r. __..7 ., -r.a.. r~mmPl^fIA~ Dear George: These a iron will be required for the SAC SLOE List, but these have not yet been pre- pared. No proposal has previously been submitted for spares for the data- reduction equipment. The accompanying proposal outlines a spares program for the five racks on which development is complete. Spares have been planned on a per-rack basis since it is rather difficult to determine the exact distribution of equipment in order to plan spares on a per-site basis. We believe these spares proposals are on the minimum side but should provide reasonable coverage for those items most likely to fail. The spares costs are separately tabulated for both you and SAC. Depot spares were determined at twice per system requirements. While you may wish to decide on somewhat different quantities of these spares, we would urge an early decision and authorization to purchase so that ddt s need to be ixlcorpora e in ges SECRET CMCC Doc. Aroved For Release 2007/07/25: CIA-RDP81 B00878R001400030101-6 _ Approved For Release 2007/07/25: CIA-RDP81 B00878RO01400030101-6 SECRET CMG No. 151X5.382 CopyJO of 4 Page of I 17 January 1956 spares may be packaged and available for shipment along with the data- reduction equipment. We have already procured and shipped the equiva- lent of about two (2) of these recommended lists with the data-reduction equipment already shipped. We estimate the spares cost per rack for the D and E racks at $2, 000. 00, and the depot spares cost at $3, 000. 00. We would appreciate contract funding of these estimated amounts so that procurement of known requirements could be initiated in time for delivery along with completed equipment. In addition to the spares requirement per rack, it is necessary to furnish a set of patch cables to make necessary interconnections for system test and checkout. A proposal for the fabrication of these patch cables is While it is still too early to accurately determine the spares require- ments for the System 4 program, we have made some estimates of expected needs and recommend that an estimated amount of $20, 000 per operating site be funded in the contract so that spares procurement and fabrication may proceed along with procurement and production for the system. Exhibit B is a preliminary list of proposed commercial test equipment for use in preflight and shop testing of System 4 and its component parts. A number of these items will later be used as a part of the preflight test set along with contractor manufactured equipment. Those items which will be used with the preflight test set are separately marked. The estimated cost per list of this commercial test equipment is $25, 000. 00. We would suggest that this estimated amount be funded in the contract for the number of sites from which System 4 equipment will be operated so that we can procure the equipment in time to deliver it along with systems. We have already ordered one set of this commercial test equipment to be used at the Ranch for flight tests of the prototype System 4. Exhibit C is a preliminary estimate of System 4 spares and support equipment needs for both the project and SAC. These estimates are based on the assumption that both you and SAC will be operating from two (2) locations each. We suggest that these estimated dollar amounts be funded in the contract.
