Referenced report proposes the following Communications/ Navigation equipment for the A-12 Vehicle: Equipment Use a, ARC-50 Normal UHF voice communications plus secure communications mode for use in aerial refueling including DME capability b. DF-301 UHF/DF for rendezvous bearing information co 618T-3 Single Side Band Communications d. ARC-15F Omni receiver for VOR Navigation and terminal let down aid e. ARN-41C ADF navigation and emergency let down aid 25X1A 2. Not included in referenced proposal are provisions for an SIF installation in the A-12. SIF Equipment is considered essential for secure identification whenever interrogated by NORAD ground stations whereby radar suppression and "hold-down" procedures can be implemented. It is understood that space limitations prevent the SIF installation concurrently with the other pment noted in paragraph 1. alone. However, has reported that the SSB installation could be ppe t interchangeability with the SIF as required. It is recommended that: a. The equipment noted in paragraph 1. above be installed in the A-12 vehicle providing that the following conditions are satisfied: (1) The ARC-50 system is proven acceptable thru flight testing. (2) The ARC-50 installation is feasible in the KC-135 aircraft. b. The SSB installation is designed to permit interchangeability with the SIF equipment as required.
