1. Ambassador g advised me 31 January that he has been asked
by the new Secretary of State to ruin "for the interim's as a Speci

Assistant to the Secretary of State, presumably advising him on intelli-
gence matters. I suspect that this asslgxmtent is somewhat analogous to
the one offered to Generall. Ooodpaater in the White House. ewer, as a

his remark** however, that he wnuld. accept such an offer were it tendered
to him.
2. Ambassador Cumming requested that his current Agency clearances
be retained, at least until his situation is more clearly defined. I am
in agreement with this.
