Trip Report, E. K. R. &D. Contract
1. The first CCB meeting concerning the E. K. R. &D. Contract
was held at Rochester on 9 July 1963.

All CCB members were present:
3. The attached E. K. document was used as the basis of die
cussion. It was decided that messages and references will use the
Proposed Approval Request (PAR) Number as a means of identifying
line items.
4. The philosophy of this R. &D. effort in relation to actual
ardware production was explained to E. K.. Generally, the new R. &D.
ract E. B. 1492 will be used for studies, techniques and fabrication
through breadboard only. Prototype or production items of equipment
will be funded separately and could be administered under this contract,
a new contract, or E.G. 400.
5. Basically the entire proposal was approved in principle
with the following exceptions:
a. PAR 23 - Processing Improvement. This item was
vague but desirable, therefore a tentative go ahead was given
for three months at a $50,000 level of effort.
b. PAR 28Modular Processor. Approved for study
at this time. Huston - Feerless is just delivering

}{TA-5 Processor to larch A. k. B. This is a modular processor
compared to the E. K. item which is really a variable purpose
alodular processor. The E. K proposal envisions adding com-
ponent modules to change the processor from negative to reversal
or even color. A significant amount of money is involved, so this
Item will be reviewed in phases of development.
c. OAR 16 - frame-by-Frame Processor. This item was
approved through breadboard and test of a model to handle 9 I/2"
wide material. We witnessed a demonstration of the 70mm bread
board and the technique shows very great potential. Production
funds will be used for the majority of future efforts.
d. PAR 4 - Automatic Exposure Control Printer. This
seemed very close to the Logetronics Printer and K.
mined they needed to do more homework on this item. It
was deferred for the present time.
e. PAR 33 - /v`odel III Titter. This item was approved and
w requirement stated for study of a distortionless inking or
tamping technique to be added when available. Current techniques
emboss the negative under pressure and frequently interfere with
fiducials or shrinkage markers on the film. The basic Model
III is still needed and it is expected that the new technique (when
found) could be interchangeable with the stamping head under design.
1. PAR 24 - Red Dot Tests. The basic film tests are approved
in principle, but funding limited to $50, 000 for the first quarter of
FY-64. As the project progresses we will approve additional funds.

opportunity to test color films for lens cornpatability for possible
satellite use.
