Robert Blakey Chief counsel and. Director House Select Co,nmitt:ee on Assassinat:i.ons Washington, D. C. 20515 Dear Mt. Blakey: This note is to remind you that at our meeting on 23 August you had requested our assistance i.n.reviewing certain materials derived from sensitive sources, in order to ascertain whether they could be used in public hearings that the Committee planned for 18 September. As you will. recall, our :first reaction was that we may well have no objections to certain uses of photography, although some special processing may be required before public use. We felt, however, there probably would be problems with certain records of conversations. We requested that we have sufficient lead time in* which to consider all those materials should you decide you might wish to use them. We did agree that there would be no use of these materials until we had reviewed them and agreed to their use, and the manner of that use if we agreed. It is noted from your letter of 31 August, that you plan for Mr. Helms to testify the last week of September. We had understood from our meeting on 23 August that you had planned for him to testify the same d.a.y .that a senior. Agency person would do so, on 21 September. As the last week in September commences on Sunday, 24 September it would he appreciated if you could advise us if there has been a change in your schedule. I am sure that you are very busy with the hearings, so this letter has been marked Priority to ensure that your staff brings it to your attention. Time-could be critical in any review of the special materials, and we would not wish to have your planning thrown off by otherwise manage- able factors.
