S"'.I II DANOTAApproved For Release 2006/11/30 CIA'RDP81 M00980R000300050138-2 WASH] NijTON, D.C. 20710 August 1 , 1078 Admiral Stans:Ciel_d Turner Director Central Intelligence Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 In April I wrote to Attorney General Gri_ ffiri B?l 1 inquiring about the results of an invest igaf.i.on about the assassination of Orlando Letelier and Ronni. KaiJF3n Moffitt . I was told the letter had been forwarded tee the Central Intelligence Agency, but I have rece:eiv? c no further response. I would like to know exactly what steps the Just. ice Department is goin?; to take, or has taken in this investigation and what kind of an investigation is be-ing made of the failure of United States intelligence -1,enc.es to know about threats against a prominent resident of the United States and diplomat and to protect him from those threats. I must stress that I am anxious for? information pertaining to this, It was well known that Orlando Letelier was opposed to the Pinochet government of Chile and had rectivE?d threats on his life, and yet American intelligence agencies for which we pay billions of dollars did not do their job and protect him which led to his assassination. I look forward to hearing from you on this matlc?r .Very soon, With best regards, Sincerely, \\"e-, James Abourek U.S. Senate Approved For Release 2006/11/30: CIA-RDP81M00980R000300050138-2 Approved For Release 2006/11/30 4CIA-RDP81 M00980R000300050138-2 ~F NCl,4SSIElEd _~CONrIDEN71Al SECRE7~ EXECUTIVE SECRETARIAT flouting Slip SUSPENSE DATE: Remarlm Approved For Release 2006/11/30: CIA-RDP81 M00980R000300050138-2
