29. (Internal Use Only - MMP) LIAISON Ira Goldman, House
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence staff, told me that
he did not understand why the DCI had called House Minority Leader
, / John J. Rhodes (R., Ariz.) to urge that passage of H.R. 7308 Foreign
Electronic Surveillance Bill) was imperative, and that the telephone
companies need the warrant to continue supporting the Intelligence
Community. Mr. Goldman's point was that this subject had been
discussed in some detail with senior Agency officials and that
he (Mr. Goldman) thought that the point had been made that the
companies have stated that they do riot need the warrant to suppor?:
the Intelligence Community.
30. (Internal Use Only - MMP) LIAISON Provided a copy
of S. 1578 to Pat Long, House Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence staff, for passage to Representative Bob Wilson
(R., Calif.) I told Mr. Long that the bill looks alright to us,
but that we were conducting an analysis of the bill and would
provide that analysis to both Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D., Texas)
and Representative Wilson as soon as possible.
