25X1 22. LIAISON In connection with. a request
from Representative Hamilton Fish' s (R., N. Y.) office directly to
25X1 NFAC, asking him to address a women's group from
Poughkeepsie on Tuesday at the Cannon Caucus Room and upon discovering
that this would be a solo performance, I contacted Brian Atwood, Congressional
Relations, Department of State, who said he would make arrangements for
a State officer to address the group also. I then went by Mr. Fish's office
and spoke to Marian Clow and explained why a representative of the CIA
was not in a positi'bn to handle the policy type questions relating to Africa
which would most likely arise among a group of some 108 individuals. I
referred to the arrangements which I had made'uith State Department for
a joint appearance. Clow was sympathetic to ou concern and said. if it
would help she had a conflict in scheduling and Would substitute a
Congresswoman for our presentation. I thanked her, making clear our
willingness to participate under other than a solo condition. Later in the
evening, Mr. Fish called me, was most appreciative of the arrangements
I had made with State and said he fully under: tool our problems and said
25X1 he thought of I because of I participation in a 25X1
Brookings' Seminar in which the Congressman participated. Our
conversation drifted to someone else who might participate with State
and Mr. Fish asked if I could make contact with DOD to see if they would
be willing to send ?,a representative. This I did through Col. Grant Miller,
Congressional Affairs, and arrangements were made.

24. I I LIAISON Met with Representative
