I LEGISLATION Met with Senator Sam Nunn (D., Ga.) and discussed with him the various implications for the CIA embodied in the Civil. Service Reform Act. 2, LEGISLATION Met with Representative James A. S. Leach (R., Iowa) and discussed with him the various impli- cations for the CIA embodied in the Civil Service Reform Act. 3. LEGISLATION Called John Childers, Chief Counsel, Minority Staff, Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, and asked if the Committee had received a letter from the Civil Service Commission setting forth the amendments with respect to the CIA. He called me back later and said the Committee had received the letter on the afternoon of 18 May. 4. I I LIAISON After obtaining the names of prominent ovie defectors an exiles, I called Gabe Schoenfeld, Research Assistant for Senator Daniel P. Moynihan (D. , N. Y. ), to pass the infor- mation along, however, he was out. 5. LEGISLATION Called Mike O'Neil, Chief Counsel, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to thank him for his interest in the Agency's position with respect to the Civil Service Reform Act and told him I would get some background information to him on the need for exemptions proposed by CIA. 25X1 6. 1 -1 BRIEFING Ann Procter, Legislative Assistant, Majority Staff, Senate Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on / Governmental Efficiency and the District of Columbia, called to request a briefing on Cuban activities in Africa for Chairman Thomas F. Eagleton (D. , Mo.) and herself. I told her we would be able to provide her with the briefing provided she had the appropriate clearances, which she said she had.
