LEGISLATION Ken Bass, at the Department o justice, ca e to say that Justice had no objection to our letter to Representative Charles Bennett (D., Fla.) on H.R. 89, classification legislation. He suggested, however, that since Admiral Turner had not talked to Attorney General Bell on the bill that we should substitute the word "subject" for "matter" in the last paragraph of the letter. 7. I I LIAISON Called Thomas K. Latimer, taff Director, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, o remind him that he was scheduled to appear before the Advanced tot Intelligence Seminar at the Chamber of Commerce building at 1300 hours on Thursday, 31 August 1978. 8. I I ADMINISTRATIVE DELIVERIES Delivered two unclassified agriculture reports on Iran to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence which Bill Miller, Staff Director, had requested for Senator Charles M. Mathias (R., Md.). 9. LIAISON Saw Bill Miller, Staff Director, 25X1 Senate Select omma ee on Intelligence, and informed him that the Department of State had issued its approval for the Agency to provide routine support an that this authority fell within the Omnibus portion o the June 1978 Presidential Finding. 10. LIAISON Called Loch Johnson, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence staff, to find out whether Representative Les Aspi.n (D., Wis.) would he in town between now and 6 September. Mr. Johnson said no. I I LIAISON Received a. call from Bruce van oors , on .lie personal staff of Senator Richard Clark (I:)., Iowa) . van Voorst said the Senator wanted to alert Iowa universities about the CIA publications available through the DOCEX program and asked that we send him approximately 35 copies of a report which could be disseminated to Iowa libraries. I said I would look into this for. him. 25X1 25X1 14. I I BRIEFING Accompanied OER/NFAC, ORI'A/NPAC, and Frederick Ilitz, Legislative Counsel, to a reac_-ast briefing of Representative Ike. Skelton (D., Mo.) on Vietnam. Skelton. is a Member of the delegation headed by Representative Sonny Montgomery (D., Miss.) which will go to Vietnam soon. Skelton was very appreciative for the briefing and offered to meet with our . analysts after his return. During the briefing, Mr. Hitz talked to Skelton about the electronic. surveillance bill. /is. LIAISON Called Jean Evans, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, and asked whether Senator Charles Mathias (R., Md.) might speak to an Advanced Intelligence Seminar on 31. August at 1:30 p.m. Evans was doubt- ful but agreed to get back to me. 16. I I LIAISON Received a call from Barbara .B. ac , in the ottico of Representative Donald Bonker (R., Wash.), requesting that their office be put on distribution for Middle East and North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. told her they would start receivin these on a regular basis in about two weeks.
