Concerning GAO Survey of NRO

Thank you for your helpful response to our letter of
August 16, 1977 about the proposed review by the General
Accounting Office of certain sensitive Department of
Defense intelligence progra,-.is.
I have asked the Undersecretary-of the Air Force to
meet with your representatives, after your staff personnel
have been briefed by the Defense Contract Audit Agency on
their work in this area to discuss the proposed scope of
your review. Hopefully we will have, by that time, the
results of the reviews of these programs by the Congres-
sional oversight co,- ittees and we can discuss in detail
your needs for further reviews.
I have also asked the Director for Policy Review-to
discuss, with the Director of Central Intelligence the
need for additional clearances for access to these programs.
Vie will need to coordinate further with him on the number
of your staff personnel who must be cleared and the eatIS'nt
of the clearances.
