Friday - 21 April 1978
1. LIAISON Jim Bush, House Permanent
Select Committee on Intelligence staff, called to say that the Budget
Authorization Subcommittee may be looking into HUMINT over the next
ten months. They feel they are still less familiar with this area than
any other part of intelligence. Bush intends to call John McMahon, DDO,
and ask for a list of previously done studies so they don't duplicate anything
already done.
2. BRIEFING Accompaniedi 2511
FAC/CSS, and NFAC/ORPA, to a briefing of
Duke Short, who works for Senator Strom Thurmond (R., S. Car.) on
the Senate Judiciary Committee. The subject covered in the briefing was
a report the Senator had received about a possible serious incident in
the Canal Zone. Short was told that he had received the same information
that Minority Leader Howard Baker (R. , Tenn.) had been briefed on. This
seemed to satisfy him and he said it would not be necessary for us to brief
the Senator.
3. I IADMINISTRATIVE DELIVERIES Delivered
a box of sta es, W73711 e Agency had borrowed, to Representative Paul
Findley (R., Ill.) and left word with Bob Wickser, of the Congressman's
staff, that the Agency people very much appreciated the Congressman
making the slides available to us.
4. I ILIAISON Received a call from Jason Cooke,
in the office o Representativejus Yatron (D. - P requested a copy
of a classified study II told
that I would look into the matter and have someone call him back.
