RJK) LIAISON Received a call from Jim Grover, Air Force Security staffer, regarding David Flarbold, SIT eam, House Appropriations Committee, who needed to have ST ndi TK clearances right away because he was going to be involved n the six-months study of the AWACS program beginning 18 September. It developed that Mr. I Iarbold's background investigation is out of date and after an exchange of several calls Mr. Grover indicated. that Mr. Harbold will not be shown any compartmented information until the BI is properly updated. Later Mr. Ilarbold himself called and I. explained to him how the Committee can update his background information by requesting the FBI-to do it. 7. (Unclassified - DFM) LIAISON Received a call from Keith Raffel, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, who asked me to proceed to set up meetings for him with OGC and Counterintelligence Staff personnel regarding the Agee case. At CI Staff's request, I asked. Raffel to send a letter outlining. his interest. The meetings were tentatively scheduled for 20 or 21 September. 8. (Confidential -- DFM) LIAISON Called. Bill Miller, Staff Director, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and expressed concern about today's Washington Star article which discusses the DCI's briefing yesterday ~f%l~e Committee on the Kampiles case. Miller had not seen the article bul indicated the Committee had not formally issued any statements regarding the subject of the Director's briefing.
