The U.S. role in monitoring any agreements reached under the Camp
David Accords has not as yet been determined. The negotiations now
taking place may set some specific tasks or tasks could be laid out in
supplementary agreements. In the interim, our E: I 25X1
airborne imagery role will continue until the par zes believe this is no
longer necessary. Whether an on-the-ground monitoring role which,
in any case, has not involved the Intelligence Community - will continue
under the new lines of withdrawal is unknown.
During this period, our clandestine IIUMINT collection, which has
steadily reported on Middle East reactions to the Accords, will continue
unabated.
I will, of course, keep you informed when our monitoring commitments
are determined. In the meantime, my Collection Tasking Staff is preparing
a summary of the status of collection on the Middle East with particular
attention to our ability to monitor any new agreements. I will provide you
a copy of this when it is completed.
