1. On this date I furnished Hal Ford of the S8CI
Staff a copy of the attached chronology on the abortive
NIE on Iran. I explained'that the original chronology pre-
pared by NIO/NESA, which he had requested, contained fairly
lengthy quotes from various drafts of the Estimate. After
discussing the matter with John Helgerson and 25X1
we felt DCI approval would be required. We also felt that
the DCI might want to seek approval from State and DIA
because they produced some of the drafts quoted. 0 25X1
2. Ford was much appreciative of the shortened
chronology which he said would serve his purposes. He
anticipated no effort would be made to free the more com-
plete version. He asked that the short chronology be sent
to SSCI. I agreed. II
