Permanent Select Committee on
Intelligence on Phillip Agee
1.. As you are aware, Representative Bob Wilson
(R., Calif.) has requested a briefing from the Agency on
Phill:ip~Agee. This briefing will take place at 4:00 p.m.
on 1.6 August 1978 in Room II 405, The Capitol. No transcript
will be taken.
2. OCommittee staff have informed us that the
Committee's questions will be as follows:
-- What damage has been done by Phillip Agee's
past revelations?
What damage do we expect from Phillip Agee's
future revelations?
What has CIA done about the past revelations
and what, is, it doing to protect itself (sources
and methods) against future revelations?
-- What might CIA have done or what would CIA
have liked to have done had the circumstances
or law permitted?
What kinds of law or legislation or congressional
support does CIA need in order to adequately protect
itself against Mr. Agee's past and future revelations?
3. II I have told the Committee that Agency briefers
will be Mr. John N. McMahon, DDO, and Mr. Anthony Lapahm,
General Counsel. I indicated that you and I might also attend.
