LIAISON Spoke with Pete Roman, 5X1 on the staff of the Senate Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Federal Spending Practices and Open Government, concerning his interest in the ate matter and I told him that I thought we could come up with a compilation of documents to satisfy his interest sometime next week. He said that would be fine. 2 13. LIAISON Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, called about the upcoming travel of a U.S. congressional delegation to Japan November 13-18 at the invitation of the "Japan/U.S. Interlegislative Council." I told him we would check out the situation and assured him that 25X1 we would provide the perspective travellers an appropriate briefing. t14, LIAISON Spoke with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, and Guy McConnell, Senate Appropriations Committee staff, and learned from them that there would be a gap between the start of the new fiscal year and the effective date of the continuing resolution which has already passed the House but probably will not be acted upon by the Senat25X1 until late in the first week in October. 0/Compt, was advised. 15. BRIEFING Accompanied SE Division, to H 405, The Capitol where he briefed comas Latimer, Staff Director, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence o (See memorandum prepared by Delivere e VCT.s letter to Chairman Edward P. Boland (D., Mass.) on "the fact of" photographic reconnaissance. 25X1 17. LIAISON Called Herb Romerstein, House Permanent e ect Committee on Intelligence staff, to ask about a trip that is being planned by Representative John M. Ashbrook (R., Ohio) and perhaps others to Europe in November or December. Mr. Romerstein told me that Representative Ashbrook, Pat Long, of the staff, and he were presently planning to travel to England, France and Germany from 9-21 November to look into the problem of terrorism in those countries. Mr. Romerstein said that Chariman Charles Rose (D., N.' Car.), Subcommittee on Evaluation, may or may not accompany them and he promise' o keep me apprised of developments.
