ADDENDUM TO JOURNAL
OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL
Tuesday - 26 December 1978
1. LIAISON Received a call from Hans Binnendijk,
Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff, who requested a short unclassified
paper on China arms sales, specifically what they produce and what they have
been selling abroad. Binnendijk also referred to the Washington Post article
about a CIA report on Soviet arms sales and asked for a copy of this report.
Subsequently, Binnendijk called again and said he was preparing a paper
about the PRC and Taiwan and wanted to know if we could say anything
unclassified about the Intelligence Community's view of the possibility of
a PRC invasion. I called him back and read him a brief unclassified
statement which had been prepared by NFAC.
4. LIAISON Received a call from Jim Locher,
Senate Armed ervices Committee staff, who said Senator Gary Hart (D., Colo.)
had asked him to accompany him on tomorrow's briefing on China. I told
Locher we would have no problems with his attending and gave him details
about the agenda.
